PriceScope

PriceScopeBefore you buy diamonds and jewelry, it is a good idea to read this write up about PriceScope and find out how they can quote such a low price of diamonds so easily.

Note: one should always do some due diligence before buying from any diamond or jewelry dealer online.

Who are PriceScope

PriceScope is a privately held corporation originated and run by one Leonid Tcharnyi. Leonid Tcharnyi, a PhD scientist, is actually Moscow-born but moved to Canada around 2000.

He does not come from a family of diamond traders or from a long line of jewelers, nor ever aspired to be a gemologist. Regardless of this Tcharnyi now runs one of the most popular consumer information web sites on diamonds. pricescope.com.

What do PriceScope Do
When it comes to the price of diamonds PriceScope can find a diamond price for virtually any diamond available.

PriceScope does not sell diamonds themselves. Instead, PriceScope has been set up as a tool one can use to locate the best diamond price prior to buying a diamond.

Once the diamond you seek has been located they will suggest one of their vendors who has the best price for that diamond. The margins are small with this and so the price of diamonds are good.

PriceScope has a selection of vendors who pay to have their diamonds listed. These vendors and the Pricescope database are updated twice a week so is fairly well up to date with prices and stock. Pricescope also makes their money from advertisements on the site.

PriceScope screens their vendors based on the vendor’s prices which must be competitive compared to what is currently in the database and the vendor must honor the prices listed on PriceScope.

Many of the internet diamond vendors are actually brokers which means they do not actually maintain a stock of diamonds. They, instead, purchase when needed. This enables them to keep their prices down as they do not have to tie funds up on stock they might be sitting there for weeks or months. Most of the stones offered to the public over the internet, in fact, are listed in the trade only to which they have access of course. Usually there are around 200,000 stones listed in the trading networks.

It can sometimes happen that a diamond you have asked for is not available. This can happen when the diamond has been sold since the last database update, or as many diamond brokers are promoting the same diamond, it could have been sold by another broker. Most brokers do not own the diamonds listed and so it is possible it may have been sold by another prober before the database is updated.

Last word on PriceScope
Tcharnyi is quoted as saying, “A smart jeweler will engage in discussion with consumers in the forums and there build his brand. People will judge your style, tone, reaction to criticism and sincerity – and this builds your name and credibility,” he says, calling it “Democratic Branding”. You can’t say ‘I’m honest’ and expect people to buy it. If a jeweler is willing to address concerns raised by consumers wary of dishonest jewelers, a trust can be built.”
